Apartment Renovation

Zaragoza (Spain)

2014

Architect
Juan Carlos Salas

General Contractor
Algra

Area
101m2

This full renovation project transforms a penthouse apartment for a couple of designers preparing to start a family. The apartment’s orientation and elevated position allow interior views to open onto the urban landscape of Zaragoza’s historic city center. A multifunctional daytime space is organized around the façade openings, framing the views and giving shape to a generous open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area that extends onto a covered outdoor terrace. This new layout rationalizes the original floor plan to create larger, more functional spaces tailored to the clients’ needs, reducing the number of rooms and the area devoted to circulation. Two of the three resulting bedrooms are connected by movable partitions to enhance the versatility of both spaces.

The material palette contributes to a calm atmosphere, ideal for family life. Wood has been selected for flooring, furniture, and wall cladding, introducing a natural texture that contrasts with the neutrality of white-painted walls and ceilings. This material foundation is intended to serve as a flexible backdrop for the residents to personalize decorative elements over time according to their evolving needs.
